Using him instead of his?

I've seen this quite a few times lately. For example someone referring to 'him mum' rather than 'his mum'. I thought it was a typo at first, but it evidently isn't. Is it dialect? Confused.

Hmm Really?

thenightsky · 09/04/2012 23:18

I've never seen 'him mum' used.

bronze · 09/04/2012 23:19

Could it be autocorrect?

Themumsnot · 09/04/2012 23:19

Well, if it is a typo it's one I've seen in a number of different places. And the two letters aren't that near each other on the keyboard. So I came to the conclusion that it was intentional. And I wondered why.

I've honestly never heard that one.

Themumsnot · 09/04/2012 23:21

Maybe it is autocorrect. My phone comes up with some distinctly odd stuff from time to time.

Examples and here

It used to be quite common in the Black Country(Wolverhampton, Dudley) when I lived there 30 years ago to say 'him' or 'her' instead of 'he' or 'she'. For example "Him's gone up the market' or 'Her's gone round Julie's. Maybe this is an extension of that.

Themumsnot · 09/04/2012 23:28

And here. I just Googled these to prove I'm not making it up!

My MIL uses her instead of she and she is from the Black Country. It's been 10 years and I still can't get used to it!

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 09/04/2012 23:44

Isn't it patois? Like Jamaican patois?

bronze · 09/04/2012 23:46

I had thought you meant on mn

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 09/04/2012 23:47

Here's another oddly it seems to be about country women's association or something.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 10/04/2012 03:09

The first link shows clearly a typo as the next related video is exactly the same but with corrected word to 'his mum'.
