I would just like to say how much I detest the use of "Re:" in the title of letters. For example:

Re: 18 High Street

Bold and underlined at the top of the letter. Surely placing the words 18 High Street in the "title" position makes it patently obvious what the letter is about? To me the use of "Re:" smacks of 1960s suburban secretarial college.

I would also argue that, nowadays, "re" has taken on a new meaning as it signifies a reply to an email, which is fine by me. And in fact people would never put "Re:" in the subject line of the first email in a thread because it would confuse people into thinking it was a reply.

My office standard template puts "Re: " in the

title of letters; I delete it every time. Anyone else hate it?

I always read the RE in an email reply title as actually meaning "re", rather than being short for REPLY!

What I really hate is Re beginning with a capital letter. Shouldn't it always be lower case only?
