It seems everyone I know, plus people on the tv, pronounce it pRerhaps. Is this correct? Then why is there no r after the first p?

I say per-haps. When you say it quickly, I suppose it sounds like praps.

I pronounce it 'per-aps' as the 'h' is silent to me.

I say "per-haps."

You made me doubt myself then; had to grab the dictionary to check! Phew - glad to know I haven't been wrong all these years.

Haziedoll · 19/03/2012 12:11

I have never heard anyone say it like that. It's quite clearly wrong.

Thank you for confirming that I am saying it correctly. You listen out though - to friends, people on the tv, news, even listening books etc. I'm sure most people say it wrong.
