wondering Wandering along the landing this morning, eyes half closed, I am greeted by dd calling,
"The punctuation in this book is wrong; there should be a comma in this sentence." I haven't checked whether she is right, yet, but it is a worrying development. for a punctuation novice

I have already been out-punctuated by a 5 year old when she correctly used a colon in a sentence. I have been ordering books off (?) the internet and am going to be trailing through pendants pedants' corner in an attempt to catch up.

I'm in trouble, aren't I?

PS. Feel free to correct any errorrs. I have a feeling that I am going to need all the help I can get.

Ha ha! Genius Grin

I'm not so hot on punctuation, I must admit, but I am a spelling pendant pedant and I get worryingly exercised when I discover things like practise/practice errors in published books.

I assume the "errorrs" in your PS was a deliberate test? Wink

As a point of style I would also prefer "trawling" as being more idiomatic, but trailing is grammatically correct.

Grin Grin

PS I hope to see your DD on here very soon.

PrisonerOfWaugh · 26/02/2012 23:09

A pedantling surely?

blackeyedsusan · 26/02/2012 23:40

'errors' was a key bored mistake. sticky r. sometimes I get a double letter and sometimes no letter at all.

aha.. trawling was the word I was looking for. Smile

Bring the little darling into the embrace of Pedants' Corner. Mwah!

P.S. Don't worry: she won't be able to pronounce all the words she knows, as she learned them through reading. However, please don't laugh at her. Use her to attack and patronise relatives and family friends who you can't stand! Grin

Ahem.
From the Web...

"The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support email."

Oh, and here's a lovely misspelling: "Bloody Kirsty Alsop and her Homemade Home encouraging us all to route around skips."

Aaargh!

(or is KA's name also misspelled?)

nickelhasababy · 14/03/2012 17:14

route around? Grin
is it telling us where the skips are going to be at any given time?

I think her name is 2 Ls.

PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 17:24

Pluto, that sentence gave me a headache Grin

Your daughter is an inspiration, Susan. I shall attempt to ensure that dnephew follows her lead Wink

plutocrap · 14/03/2012 17:29

"is it telling us where the skips are going to be at any given time?"

Skip nav!

stealthsquiggle · 14/03/2012 17:30

DS is also a smartass pedantling.

The worst victim to date has been a hapless student teacher on placement in his school who dared, amongst other blunders, to illustrate some vocabulary exercise where the text referred to dragons with (brace yourselves) a cockatrice Shock.
