Should it be ideas? Or either? I understand it is the idea of the team members so unsure as idea could be collective or individual.
Anyone?

If its a joint idea of the team ie more than one person, then members' is correct. If it is the idea of a member of the team then it should be member's.

If it is one idea you shouldn't write ideas.

I would assume from that, as written, that there was one idea which had emerged from a combined effort by the team members, or at the same time from more than one member of a team such that it could not fairly be ascribed to just one of them.

PrincessWellington · 16/02/2012 12:25

But what if the team comes up with more than one idea collectively?

If there is more then one idea, then it would be ideas.

But then I suppose it get subjective as to what counts as a single idea, and what is definitely distinct and plural!

Clownsarescary · 16/02/2012 12:28

Then it would be members' ideas.

PrincessWellington · 16/02/2012 12:30

Ok I'm going to write team members' idea(s). Does that look right?

That is right if you don't know whether there is one idea or several produced by more than one team member.

One idea: members' idea
Several ideas: members' ideas.

You're welcome. I have just discovered this section as well and feel remarkably at home here already. Sad but true. Wink
