Which is correct?

Depends entirely on how many visitors you're expecting!

iklboo · 14/11/2011 18:47

It's a sign on a government building. There's some debate as to which it should be.

Visitor's - one visitor

Visitors' - more than one visitor.

For a Governmental building, the plural seems vastly more likely.

Mabelface · 14/11/2011 19:06

the plural

There really shouldn't be a debate on this though, should there? I'm surprised they haven't actually gone for "visitors entrance" - like childrens clothes and mens toilets, et al- when people don't understand where, if at all, the apostrophe goes, they simply leave it out altogether. What's not to get?? Grrrrr!

iklboo · 14/11/2011 20:02

AND there's a big gap between the 'r' and the 's' like they thought about putting it there. Maybe 'Entrance for Visitors' would have been easier Grin.

They could solve the whole mess by treating visitor as an adjective and just writing "Visitor Entrance".
