and there is no such thing as "duck tape"!

Or maybe there is, but it would surely be for very specific uses only.

That is all.

You are right.

rushofbangerstothefire · 04/11/2011 15:05

Duck Tape

thousandDenier · 04/11/2011 15:05

there is a brand of duct tape called Duck Tape. HTH :)

CumpyGrunt · 04/11/2011 15:05

I agree, it is DUCT TAPE.

I believe there is a brand called 'duck tape' though.

waitingforskinnyjeanstofit · 04/11/2011 15:06

I'm sure I saw some duct tape for sale branded Duck Tape. that'll confuse someone.

AnotherEmptyNest · 04/11/2011 15:06

Agreed. It is duct tape. When I saw a notice in Great Mills or was it Focus Do It All, there was a display tub with 'duck tape', I went and told the Manager. Stupid Boy.

MarkStretch · 04/11/2011 15:06

Yes it is Duct Tape.

I had to ring my Dad the other day and ask him if it was Allen Key or Alum Key as I saw a poster about an Alum key and had a terrible feeling I may have been getting it wrong all this time Blush

CumpyGrunt · 04/11/2011 15:06

Haha Grin

What they said.

Moodykat · 04/11/2011 15:07

There is a brand called Duck that make duct tape, just to add to the confusion!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:07

Well that put me in my box :)

Did not know about the brand. Apologies to all MNers whose posts have caused me to huff and puff in my superior way.

OP posts:
Moodykat · 04/11/2011 15:07

Cross posts! Sorry!

Pendeen · 04/11/2011 15:08

Both.

Manufacturers have caught on and take advantage of consumer confusion and market "Duck Tape" which is subtly different from "Duck Tape" (originally the product used by engineers to seal the joints in ducts).

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:08

But at least I'm not alone!

OP posts:
picnicbasketcase · 04/11/2011 15:09

Maybe it's just that the brand has become the name, like sellotape, hoover etc. But I was never sure which it was called, so YANBU, kind of.

Pendeen · 04/11/2011 15:10

Arrrgggghhh. Duct duct duct, oh ductit!

X post and typo in the same short post. :(

Kick me!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:11

Actually no, I would swear that the brand humourously dubbed itself "duck tape" because that's what people called it. Cutesy corporate advertising.

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:11

I did wonder what the subtle difference was Pendeen...

OP posts:
Mmmnotsure · 04/11/2011 15:12

Gaffer tape is better, anyway!

MardyBra · 04/11/2011 15:12

YABU

ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/11/2011 15:13

It's a brand name.

Like Sellotape.

And Hoover.

Do you say pass me the uni-directional bonding tape?

Do you say I am going to clean my floors with a vacuuming appliance?

If not, you ain't gorra leg to stand on.

Smile
tearsbeforebreakfast · 04/11/2011 15:13

yes it is, however this post is not an AIBU, so no gold stars for you.

FredFredGeorge · 04/11/2011 15:15

There is unquestionably something called Duck Tape, and there's a strong likelyhood that the Duct Tape name came after Duck Tape. So YABU and completely wrong.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:15

I like uni-directional bonding tape. That may just solve all my tape-related issues.

sunshineoutdoors · 04/11/2011 15:16

At the risk of sounding thick..... is it wall plugs or rawl plugs?

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 04/11/2011 15:17

No way FredFredGeorge ! The duct was bedfore the duck - otherwise there is no logic in the world and engineers seal joints with ducks.
