Temporarily! Temporarily, dammit!

There's a newsreader on Radio 4 at the moment driving me mad. She can't say the word 'temporarily'. She keeps saying things like 'India has agreed to temporally reverse its policy on yada yada yada'

It is not the same word! Angry

As you were. Grin

In other news, the description on these jeans made me laugh out loud. It's pretty much the last thing you want skinny jeans to do....

Perhaps she really means "pertaining to time"? You never knowGrin write to BBC's "Newswatch" programme, they love that kind of observation.

ARF at "huge your figure"

I can do that all by myself thanks, Oasis.

DelGirl · 06/11/2011 12:43

whatfresh pmsl

Thumbwitch · 06/11/2011 12:46

love that link! "huge your figure" - they'd certainly do that to mine at the moment!!

An inability to enunciate clearly is a perennial problem - my mother was always going on about it too, as she had had elocution lessons when she was younger and spoke Rather Well - and taught us to as well (well, me anyway - my younger sis favoured the local dialect more as she felt it helped her fit in better).

Trills · 06/11/2011 12:49

:o at those jeans

plupervert · 06/11/2011 12:55

"temporally reverse"

A Freudian slip from a StarTrek fan, perhaps?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 08/11/2011 19:40

Ooooh you turn your back on a thread and all these people turn up!

I'm glad the jeans made people laugh. Not just me chuckling to myself like a nutter Grin

Ah, WhatFreshHell, Pedants' Corner works a bit like poste restante, with people scuttling in at intervals, to "correspond"! It's always worth checking in again! Smile

Trills · 08/11/2011 22:21

I like it.

Proper use of topics should be like this - you ask a question in the appropriate place and when you come back someone with an interest in the topic at hand has left you a useful answer.

None of this "I've put this in AIBU because it gets more traffic" bollocks.

Red2011 · 12/11/2011 09:36

I found myself becoming increasingly irritated with Marcus du Sautoy during his recent programme about the potential of time-travel because he kept saying "nucular" and "nuculus" instead of "nuclear" and "nucleus". To the point where I was shouting at the telly. I think I over-react sometimes! :)

plupervert · 12/11/2011 21:03

Apparently, Sarah Palin is a devotee of the "nucular" option (rather than of the pronunciation "nuclear"). Maybe you were thinking of her, and not over-reacting one little bit.

Red2011 · 13/11/2011 10:21

I try to live by the rule that if you can't spell or pronounce a word, or you don't know the meaning, you shouldn't use it. I think that's fairly pedantic!

plupervert · 13/11/2011 16:40

That's not pedantic; that's sensible! (very prudent care for one's self-esteem, too!)
