So my sister says, "Can I lend ten quid?"
My response: "To whom?"

Exactly. It's the same as 'Can you borrow me some money?'. What? Huh? That doesn't even make sense.

Agggghhhh! Beware your turning into my Father don't do it!
You'll be telling the population of my home town it's not "haitch" next. It's a slippery slope...

Think you should say "no sis, I will neither lend nor borrow you the money. It will be a gift, a reward if you will, when you demonstrate correct usage of the words lend and borrow".
