"I was sat on my bed when Humbert, the dog, came in and licked me..."
"I was stood on the corner having a fag..."

I was sat sitting there

and it's disgusting to let dogs lick you!

Not as tit-getting-on as;

"So I turned to him and said..."
"He turned to me and said...."
"She turned and tole me...."

No you weren't, you were sitting and standing.

And I actually confronted a room of teachers about this, and they thought you could say either.

They were not my DC's teachers....

even worse than "I was sat" is "I was laid" (pronounced led)
