This thread has made me laugh but it's also really sad. What's happened to the world?

I think have turned into my Dad. I mentioned to him the other day that I seem to have become a bit of a pedant in my old age and he looked horrified and said 'YOU???' as if my grammar is so appalling, I couldn't possibly judge anyone else's! Grin

Rogue apostrophes don't bother me in the green grocers - I rather like it - but in Tesco et al, it fills me with inexplicable rage.

yoshiLunk · 08/08/2011 13:52

I think the ranty-ness of this thread distracts from it's good humour.

But then, I am sleep depraved.

Olifin · 08/08/2011 14:02

Ha ha ha!

Olifin · 08/08/2011 14:08

My FIL worries about his prostrate gland.

And what about mischievious? It seems to be actually more common now than mischievous.

Mumswang · 08/08/2011 14:08

Oh but those tesco judgeypants are devine....

TheGrimSweeper · 08/08/2011 15:04

How about bring instead of take? Oh, did you enjoy those Brownies I made? Girl, I can pack some up for you to bring home with you if you want.

Whats the world coming too?

Olifin · 08/08/2011 15:53

It is a sorry state of affairs.

OTheHugeManatee · 08/08/2011 17:01

Perhaps not the moment to nitpick about typos, but I've seen a few posts on twitter referring to 'squirmishes' in the London riots Hmm

caughtinanet · 08/08/2011 17:07

Grimsweeper, that's one which seems to be creeping over here from the US which reminds me of "I could care less" when you mean the exact opposite. I really don't understand the logic behind it.

OTheHugeManatee · 08/08/2011 17:32

caughtinanet That one all ways makes me shudder.

DaisySteiner · 08/08/2011 20:17

lettinggo · 09/08/2011 11:34

I was feeling quiet digusted that you lot where being so pedantic!

Thumbwitch · 09/08/2011 11:43

the trouble with a lot of the things that the English find so annoying is that they are common place in America and/or Australia; they worm there way in because of tv programs and then everyone starts to use them i.e. "Can I get.." and "I'll bring it home to them" ect. ect. There are less Australianisms than Americanisms, because Aussies get there's from America to.

TheGrimSweeper · 09/08/2011 11:48

Been reflecting on the riots. So sad Sad. Theirs an underlined problem that needs to be sorted.
