Ignorant

I always believed ignorant to mean ill-educated or lacking knowledge about something specific, or a general lack of education.

I have seen it used so often to mean generally rude that I now doubt myself.

(I once worked with a woman who used it to refer to when someone was ignoring her; "I saw her in town and said "hi" but she was ignorant" ie "she ignored me" Grin)

I soooo agree with you, this is one of my pet hates.

I think when people use it in that context it is a shorthand for "she was behaving in a fashion which illustrated her ignorance of the correct and polite way to behave".

But I suspect that a lot of people who use it don't realise that that is what they are saying, and it bugs me too.

I team it with 'pig' and use it in its correct form Grin
