This was written in a shop I wouldn't normally work in last night and I couldn't stop staring at it.

There was something else that said do this 'of an evening'

This is wrong isn't it??

It's sound like old time Yorkshire to me. I quite like it, but yes, it's incorrect.

Hmm. So when, for instance, Ben Jonson said of Shakespeare "He was not of an age, but for all time." he he would have fallen foul of Pedants' Corner?

I do hope not.

I don't like 'of an evening' either, but assumed it was a colloquialism.

I was chatting to someone recently who asked me if a mutual friend had been "on the sick" Hmm
