... drive me nuts.

You're not clever enough to send your child to a grammar if you can't spell it; you can't afford an independent if you can't spell it; you demonstrate an inability to recognise that you need to stop eating so much if you always talk about how you're going to 'loose' weight.

There.

I just shot grapefruit juice through my nostrils. So worth it!

Fair enough to be irritated, but I don't think it's necessary to be so sneery.

Your child needs to be clever, you don't.

you can't afford an independent if you can't spell it

You only need money, there isn't a spelling test for parents

you demonstrate an inability to recognise that you need to stop eating so much if you always talk about how you're going to 'loose' weight

Being able to spell it does not preclude being able to do it

On the other hand, if you want to be able to help your child with their homework at that grammar school/fabulous independent school, better brush up on your spellings. Or maybe helping them with their homework will improve your writing.

I searched for a thread I'd seen onGCSEs the other day - couldn't find it because, of course, it was spelled GCSE's.

Um- guys! This is Pedants' Corner! If you're going to feel aggrieved at someone's post where they state what, pedantically, annoys them, you may have to look elsewhere to pick your fights!

There's a difference between saying something annoys you and claiming that people must be thick or poor or fat because they have bad spelling.

FamilyCircus · 16/05/2011 22:34

Your post was spiteful erebus! I'm not picking a fight, just pointing that out.

This may be Pedants' Corner, but it's still part of MN. Your thread title comes up in Active Convos so the posters you're sneering at can read your comments.

Additionally it's silly to suggest that being able to use 'loose' and 'lose' in the correct context is necessary to understand the science behind losing weight.
