Man-DATE-ory.

To all those who are saying mand-a-tory: how do you pronounce 'mandate'?

CointreauVersial · 03/05/2011 23:03

MAN-da-tory.

The other way sounds horribly.....American.

CointreauVersial · 03/05/2011 23:05

And Mandate is MAN-date.

thumbwitch · 03/05/2011 23:22

yes, mandate is MAN-date, so emphasis remains on the first syllable, shouldn't be transferred to the second.
