LawrieMarlow · 19/03/2011 09:55

Well at least allot is a word I suppose.

Alright is another of my bugbears.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 19/03/2011 09:56

Alright?

LawrieMarlow · 19/03/2011 10:21

It is all right, not alright. Well it was when I learned about it although things may have changed since I was younger :)

BoysAreLikeDogs · 19/03/2011 10:23

oh please read me

butterpieify · 19/03/2011 10:26

I agree :)

I don't even understand how it could happen that people think "alot" is a word.

SarkyLady · 19/03/2011 10:26
Grin
nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 12:41

alright is fine, as it's a contraction of all right.

as is almost = all most
already = all ready

Clary · 19/03/2011 12:48

I used to be a journalist and have never forgotten a colleague (a sub editor no less) asking me "is 'abit' one word, the same as 'alot'?"

Aaaaarrrrgh I didn;t know what to say reallt Grin

BoysAreLikeDogs · 19/03/2011 13:04

stabbing would have sufficed, Clary Grin

cattj · 28/03/2011 13:02

Just cleared a piece of malware from several laptops in the office.

It was called "alot toolbar".

Aarrgghh!!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/03/2011 13:06

I was taught 'alot' in primary school. So blame the teachers Grin

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2011 13:08

My Grandma has a magnet on her fridge that reads "I like chocalot alot". I mean, what the frig?

It's a great diet aid. I can't look at the fridge without being reduced to tears. If I can't see it, I can't eat it.

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2011 13:08

Oh and she's a diabetic so shouldn't be liking 'chocalot', alot or otherwise.

MsScarlett · 11/04/2011 20:15

My old English teacher went so completely mental every time anyone did this...

Perhaps that is the answer. Mental English teachers.
