a very prolific facebook addict who keeps popping up on my friend's page has her name set up as (eg)

Jane Smith Formally Jones

it makes me wince every time I see it

I can see why it's wrong, but what should it be?

Can you tell her privately? If you can in a 'thought you might like to know...' kind of way, but not if you have to put it in a public area.

So not one of your friends then? Shame.

Can you send them a message saying I thought you'd like to know that's "formerly"?

Maybe she uses Smith when she's feeling informal.

I could perhaps mention it to my friend, who might pass it on...

Can you not just tell her there is a section in the profile where you can put names you were previously (formerly) known by.
