For Auld Lang Syne, for Pete's sake!

Just heard this first NYE rendition of Auld Lang Syne on the telly. Aaaaaargh! It sets my teeth on edge every year to hear the refrain "For the sake of Auld Lang Syne". The lyrics are "for Auld Lang Syne" - there's no "sake of". Never was, never will be. Any other examples of mis-rendered traditional songs/stories? I'm going to have to spend the rest of tonight either with a pillow over my ears, or very drunk. Or both

Never mind the lyrics being wrong.

You don't cross hands till the line "And there's and hand, my trusty fiere"

It drives me nuts to see people crossing hands too early! :o

Drives me mad too. Do you remember Cherie Blair doing this and trying to get the Queeen to join in? Or am I imagining it?
