The problem with being a pedant is that a slightly incorrect usage can lead to odd mental images.

In this case, coming across the above phrase had me giggling at the unbidden thought of a confused hen who thinks she must output feathers rather than eggs. Grin

Life would be poorer without such moments!

I always ask him what he needs to lay down because he doesn't seem to be carrying anything, but i like yours better! Xmas Grin

It annoys me too! I used to teach TEFL and made sure everyone said it properly. I think it might be a little bit regional though.
