This is sort of an AIBU thing too I guess, but here goes.
I spend a lot more time online these days than I used to, and I am CONSTANTLY shocked at the level of bad spelling. Not just silly typo's when you are typing too fast, which we can all manage, but purely wrong spelling. As often as not it comes from seemingly well educated literate folk, and now I'm beginning to wonder if it is just me that worries about it any more.
I know kids have their own 'lingo' through texts and instant messaging, but even they will in time have the need to be able to communicate legibly in the written word surely? My daughter has learned that any messages to me must be in proper English, if only so that she can demonstrate to me that she is still capable of doing so.
Am I just resisting the evolution of our language or are things really getting as bad as I think they are?
