I just heard Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2 reading aloud from a Cannes Boat & Yacht Show press release and he pronounced the word picturesque (as in "the picturesque French Riviera") "picture-scyoo". Then followed the item by announcing that today is International Literacy Day. Without a hint of irony.

bangs head on table: just once, but quite hard

Haha, his whole brain has gone squiffy - definitely askew!

But are you really, really sure he was not being ironic? Or perhaps the press release was badly spelled? That's not impossible....

PortBlacksand · 08/09/2010 18:53

He always says that - he says A-lien too. Doesn't make him funny though Wink

I have a MIL who can't pronounce the word Statuesque - she says Stachoozike....

Don't get me started on Steve Wright. If he talks about the "interweb" one more time..... I agree he is trying to be ironic but it's not clever or remotely funny.

And as for singing all over the tracks...... Angry

Ah maybe he was trying to be ironic. I see. Well that was hilariously funny then. Hmm Shudder.

I'd imagine the kind of person who thinks it's funny to mispronounce picturesque on purpose also thinks it's cool to say cheeriebye.

Um, how else does one pronounce 'alien'?

Ay - lee - un, no? Have I been making a terrible folks paz all these years? [wacky dj humour]

PortBlacksand · 09/09/2010 21:29

Dingy - he says it with the Al - like you would say the name Alex - Al - ee - Un...

Dinghy · 09/09/2010 22:40

So like the name Alan but with an 'ee' sound after the 'l'?

What a prat.

And I'm pronouncing that 'cock'.

PortBlacksand · 09/09/2010 22:49

Grin - yes that's right (wright) - and he does talk all over the 'toons'...

Dinghy · 09/09/2010 22:52

He plays songs?

Well I never.

I thought he was allergic to music.

Mind you, I've not listened to him in years.

midnightsun · 10/09/2010 18:34

It serves me wright for not changing stations at once when his show began.
