Undoubtably

DH keeps saying "undoubtably" instead of "undoubtedly".

Any advice?

Leave him.

BosomForAPillow · 26/07/2010 19:30

Thing is, they're so similar that I don't think anyone else would know he's doing it.

BUT HE IS.

stab him, I would

BosomForAPillow · 26/07/2010 19:38

I've already got him to stop saying "could of", "somethink" and made sure he doesn't muddle up their/there in his texts. I just don't know if undoubtably is worth tackling.

Does he also say "innit"?

Surely your name should be "BosomforaPillow"

I am joking btw.

BosomForAPillow · 26/07/2010 19:43

No, he doesn't say innit.

Surely your name should be OnePieceOfLollipop

Make him choose either to say indubitably or undoubtedly. If he doesn't stick to the agreement, you start cancelling/locking Sky channels until you have nothing but QVC left.

SleepingLion · 26/07/2010 19:47

Is it similar to that Friends episode where Joey can't say 'supposedly' and there's a wonderful moment where he is muttering 'supposably' to himself whilst trying to work out what's wrong with it?

onepieceoflollipop · 26/07/2010 19:49

Maybe "OnePieceofLollipop" - I shall have to give up soon as I am about to embark on second glass of wine!

I tried to say "anonymity" at work (completely appropriately) the other day and gave up on the third attemp. Some words defeat me totally.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/07/2010 19:50

attempt

BosomForAPillow · 26/07/2010 19:51

Yes! It is just like that. DH has laughed at that episode in the past and says "supposably" now as a joke...at least, I think it's a joke.

I could start saying indubitably and see if the penny drops. That could be quite fun anyway.

I can't say impetigo which is embarrassing as DS has it and I've had to try and say it a few times today. I might just stay indoors until it has gone.

SleepingLion · 26/07/2010 20:59

I can't say 'peculiarly'. Try it: it's really hard!

alicatte · 26/07/2010 21:11

Practise! Think in terms of syllables and enunciate each phoneme carefully, eventually it becomes easy.

Obviously I have head start as I have to administer spelling tests every week.

Sounding like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland isn't so bad after a while.
