Changing School and Birthday Coming

Can anyone give me some advice? My DD will be 5 mid September and starting big school. Am at a bit of a loss to know what to do about her birthday party - she has been very excited about having one, having been to lots of others this year. But my problem is she's leaving pre-school in July. There are only 2 or 3 children from her pre-school going to the big school. Who do I invite? Should I ask for contact details from friends at the pre-school or just invite people from the big school she'll only just have met? I'm a bit anxious about inviting the whole class as we have a smallish house. Any advice would be much appreciated.

May be you could delay the party slightly to give you time to see who your dd is drifting towards in her class. Then you could have a mixture of people she'll stay in touch with from playgroup plus new friends.

No one will hold it against you for not inviting the whole class. She can always take in a bag of funsize on the day to keep everyone happy.

Thank you lilliputlady - seem to get really stressed about birthdays. I think delaying a couple of weeks might be a really good idea.

If you did it at the beginning of the academic year, if you have a garden, the weather should (this is Britain!!!) be good enough to have the kids outside.

I personally like the parties in September with the new ones as it is an opportunity to get to meet the parents as well in an informal setting.

Thank you rainbowfizz. That's a really good way of looking at it, it would be a really good opportunity to meet the new dcs and parents. Feeling a bit more positive now!
