My colleague is going to be a godfather and he is looking for the perfect gift.

Can you recommend something you would like to receive?

my boys have lovely pictures with their names on and the meaning if them at the bottom. Each letter of the name has a picture of an animal and it tells you a little bit about the animal. You could also have the date of the event.date of birth put on.

They also have special picture frames/plates that you can write a message on with a special pen and them bake it in the oven so they are useable. Or you could ask the parents to open it after the christening so everyone there could sign it.

When my surrogate daughters were baptised I was asked to be Godmum and I got them three gifts each - a small toy they'd like to play with as babies, a bit of jewellery for when they are older and a tree planted in their name from the Woodland Trust. The theme was 'now, later and forever' - very cheesey but it seemed to go down well.

Well that is really nice. Really thoughtful and I like the idea of celebrating their births as well as their journeys through life.

silver things:
a silver photo frame
silver boxes to put the first tooth, first curls
a little silver rattle
a cross (if religious)

other ideas here

My dd's godparents built a dollhouse from scratch! They also gave dd a cross as well as christening gown.
