Is this OTT?

I have just arranged DDs 4th birthday party. She is fanatically princess mad, and has asked me for a princess party, and wants a princess dress to wear on the day. Not a problem, I am making her a sparkly princess dress to wear as her birthday present. BUT she has said that she wants everyone to dress up too - I have put on the invitations that it is a fancy dress type party, with a fairytale theme - is this a bit OTT? will people think I am being presumptuous and not come because of it? Am just wondering if I have done the right thing with this.

Sounds cute,

might put the boys off though

I think it'll be great, they'll love it!

That's fine.
Most little girls have a princessy style sress in the dressing up box, and pirates are easy to do.

Shaz10 · 13/06/2010 20:53

Even if you didn't put fancy dress nearly all the girls would turn up in princess dresses anyway.

LostArtofKeepingASecret · 13/06/2010 20:53

The children will love it. Every 4 yr old loves to dress up.

Not OTT at all. Dress up on invites is very much the norm IME, esp at his kind of age.

Been to neice's 4y birthday party this weekend - was princesses and pirates.

I like the Fairytake theme for dress up -infact we did similar (storybook) for DD's 4th birthday - as it is open to interpretation.

phew, I would never forgive myself if no-one turned up. Now, I just have to get the plates, organise the food, get the balloons, do the party bags, make the princess dress.............

I have been to a pirate princess party before, got DS all dressed up but you may need to get pirate hats/tiaras for those with parents who come but can't be bothered or don't have those costumes, or kids that don't want to dress up but change their minds once they see all their little friends dressed up. The party I was at had a possible 3 tantrums avoided because the mum had spares

faddle · 13/06/2010 21:14

Good thinking, I'll get some of those party tiaras and prince crowns or something.

If you can find chocolate coins too the kids loved them

Faddle I'm doing a Knights and Princesses theme party for DS1's 5th birthday next month. Tesco have packs of mini tiaras with integral hair combs and matching wands both in packs of 4 for £1.50 all on a 3 for 2 offer at the moment. I got lots to put in the girls' party bags.
