We are having a little do for DS 1st birthday at the weekend and I am struggling a bit with the food.

I don't want to go too mad as its only about 12 people coming but I did want to offer somthing other than just sandwhiches. I was thinking along the lines of little quiches - any recipes? Or suggestions for alternatives would be much appreciated.

recipe here

What about cheese straws?

Mini chicken/prawn skewers?

Cut a fresh loaf length ways and spread with soft filling like triange cheese and thin ham / smoked salmon and then carefully roll up and slice into rings?

I tend to do more of an adult type buffet, as my dc do not like sandwiches.

So I usually do

Cold meats
salad
New potatoes
crusty bread & butter
cheese & crackers
a few savoury and sweet treats.
Grapes

Thanks for the suggestions.

Moneynopockets - that recipe looks delicious. I have only got a cupcake tin though - the type you make mince pies in - do you think that would be ok. Also do you think I would get away with using shortcrust pastry instead of puff pastry? Would the cooking times alter.

Tray should be fine just be careful not to overfill the cases.

They will be heavier using shortcrust rather than puff pastry.
