DD will be 14 soon and wants to see her closest friends. She suggested inviting them round for the afternoon and for tea, but I think that sounds a bit dull and that they'll end up being bored. Her friends don't really do outdoor activities as such, so adventure day is out. As is trip to theme park (friend just did that). Can anyone suggest anything as I'm at a loss! Thanks.

When DD was 12, I took her a 3 friends on a shopping trip, and gave them all some money to spend in Primark. We spent hours in Primark. We then went for lunh at McDonalds. We had a lovely girlie time, visiting all the shops and trying on all the clothes and perfumes. We then came back home, had takeaway pizza for tea. the girls stayed over and they did DVDs and snacks in her room.

Get a makeup artist to come in and give them a proper makeup lesson. They will love the experience. and it will save them from years of trowelled-on slap and panda eyes. Result.

14th birthday is the perfect time for this, imo.

How about 'proper' afternoon tea, where they dress up and behave like 'ladies' etc?!!

Or a retro 'kiddy party' where they play pass the parcel etc and eat jelly and icecream.

Or a murder mystery, with a dinner party?

Or maybe jewellery making, or ceramic painting or something plus birthday tea?

Or drop them all off at a Chinese buffet place or something and leave them to it, returning only to pay the bill and bring in the cake?!

A lady near me does 'little miss' junior pamper parties where she comes to your house and does their manicures, pedicures, hair, make up etc - what ever they want really!

Might be a nice treat? Good for 14 year olds I reckon.
