Number 2 Birthday Cake

Has anyone made a # 2 birthday cake before without a # 2 cake pan? If so, how easy/hard is it. Thinking about doing one for my DD's 2nd birthday as I really don't feel like spending £20 on a cake pan or £50+ on a bought one!

No, but I made a number 3 cake - I was able to hire the tin from the local cake decorating shop. It was fine - I just used an all-in-one victoria sponge recipe and covered it in butter icing.
Without the tin, guess you could make a square cake and cut the two out (and put the trimmings in a trifle!)

I made a penguin out of two square cakes (Don't ask). I asked in a sugarcraft shop and I was assured that Maderia cake was the best cake for cutting shapes from because it is heavier IYSWIM. I bought readymix for this and it worked - didn't fall apart anyway!
