Pinatas

I am hoping someone has a super pinata tip to help me please.

DS and his friend (both nearly 5) are having a shared party and we have ordered a pinata. Party is in a hall with v high ceiling so can't hang it from there.

I was thinking of hanging it from a horizontal broom stick held up by two of the dads who are helping at the party, while the children take it in turns to whack it.

Has anyone tried this and do you think it'd work - or any better ideas?

I have only seen one pinata irl and that was hanging from a portable clothes rail but the children kept hitting the rail rather than the pinata.

Thanks in advance

From experience, pinatas need to be hung from a strong central point above. If the Dads hold a broomstick, they will get whacked and the party could end up with a 999 call.

Do not let anyone hold the pinata! They will deffo get hit. Can you do that bit outside - hang it from a tree branch.

And don't use anything other than a proper pinata stick to hit it with - I have seen a very nasty accident happen when a plastic golf club was used and the head broke off, whacking someone in the face.

Make sure the kids all stand in a line well back and don't crowd around waiting for their turn.

Thanks for the replies, obviously need to have a rethink....

Outside is not an option unfortunately. Will only use the proper stick.

I wonder if I could make something out of two step ladders and a broom stick?

We may of been lucky, but we used the broomstick option at party in December. No injuries.
Only thing I would say was we were surprised at how much of a beating the pinata took, even with 13yr old boys/girls, pummelling it it wasn't going to surrender the goodies. Although it did eventually after a good 15 minutes.

We use a very long piece of string/rope thread it through the top and get two dad's to hold the ends. Voila! x

Just to report back (as of course I am sure everyone is on the edge of their seat wanting to know about this) - luckily there were some hooks in the hall walls and we managed to rig it up that way. It did take a hammering and in the end fell to the floor still whole, followed by a pack of rabid dogs excited children trying to rip it apart.
