Lip Balm/Gloss in party bags for 4/5 year olds?

Are lip balms/glosses an acceptable thing for that age or would Mums not be happy?

I have two boys so I've not had to think about things like that before!

Personally, I wouldn't put them in a party bag, and I'd probably prefer they weren't there. But, dd would love it if she found one in a party bag, and I wouldn't think the mother in question was out of line for putting it in. I just think there are lots of other options that would make a 4 year old girl equally happy - hair slides, bracelets, books, notepads etc.

I too personally wouldnt like my DD (6yrs old) to have them or would give them out at a party. I know every parent is different though!

My 6yr old DD would love it! I wouldn't mind too much. It isn't like it is bright pink lipstick. And DD's have lip balm for dry lips.

Eve4Walle · 13/05/2009 15:27

No way. I wouldn't want DD to get that in a party bag now and she's 5. She'd probably love it though!

AnnasBananas · 13/05/2009 15:58

I wouldn't want dd to get that, either. Sorry!

northender · 13/05/2009 16:00

Lip gloss not sure but a fruity lip balm or similar, dd would love and I'd be happy with her having it.

crokky · 13/05/2009 16:01

My DD is younger, but I wouldn't like her to bring home that sort of stuff at 4/5yo. (Sorry!)

cthea · 13/05/2009 16:03

Same here, DD would love it. I think I'm supposed to say I wouldn't, sexualising etc, but in reality I know it will just get lost after a couple of hours. It's not as if she hasn't seen one before or hasn't access to mine if she wanted them. I guess I'm saying I wouldn't have had my own opinion on this if it weren't for boards like this.

crokky · 13/05/2009 16:59

I suppose it is a small part of the worry that some of us have for our girls - the sexualisation/image obsession that our society has these days. I don't think I would have thought much of it when I just had DS, but now that DD turned out to be a girl (I felt she was going to be a boy ) I do think about things like this adn they do worry me.

ChippyMinton · 13/05/2009 20:56

My DD would love it. I wouldn't mind as long as it was not coloured or too glittery. You may be on safer ground with hair clips or bobbles, the more glittery the better.

squeaver · 13/05/2009 20:58

Get the fruit flavoured lip balm. They absolutely love it.

Hulababy · 13/05/2009 21:09

My DD would have loved them at that age, she still would at 7y. I'd have no problems. Infact DD has recieved them before and she was happy.

CapnMistyCannonbait · 13/05/2009 21:27

think its better than the crappy sweets that are usually given out, special little girls ones are fine, as are the fruity lip balms...]grin]

FrazzledFairyFay · 13/05/2009 21:33

I'd be happy for my DD (nearly 4) to receive a fruity lip-balm / chap-stick but I'd not be very happy with a lip-gloss.

islandofsodor · 13/05/2009 21:38

I wouldn't be happy and havn't been as dd had them in party bags from the agr of 4/5 onwards. I never said anything of course but I do think it isn;t appropriate for children so young.

We have now discovered she is allergic anyway so she knows she can't have them but the majority of girls her age would love it.
