Pirate Party and little girls fancy dress...

My DD aged 2.9 is going to a fancy dress pirate party.

I think she should go as a pirate, as it is a pirate party. DH disagrees, as she is not a boy, therefore not a pirate. but I pointed out she cannot go as a buxom wench at such a tender age, so what would she go as. He said, a princess . I also pointed out not all pirates are boys, but could not think of any to back up my argument?

So next question, where do we get pirate outfit from?

I can do the scruffy trousers, DD has some trousers which are too small for her now, I will do zigzaggy bottoms on those, what else do I need? Scarf? Stripey top? Sword?

I can vouch for the fantastic quality of their costumes although poss a little ££

if the party mummy has any sense at all all swords will be confiscated at the door on the way in...

but then i do bear the scars of having 3 dcs who love pirates and sword fighting lol... generally we have at least 3 swords adorning the tops of cupboards/ wardrobes/ bookshelves where they have been put after the last 'don't whack your sister with the sword again' warning...

i am a total killjoy though

Great costumes but we need it for tomorrow...so, how about this..?

Pink cords, slashed at the knees
Pink and white stripey tee from somewhere like new look
dark pink gypsy scarf with tassles/jewels, cut into a triangle for her headscarf, and the rest tied around her waist
eye patch which wont last
foam sword - she needs a sword as all the others will have one, they are bigger boys, she needs to fight back!!!

Sounds good - and get your DH to read The Night Pirates - "rough, tough little girl pirates, with their own pirate ship".

foam sword good, plastic or wood sword bad we have a stuffed fabric sword (really - no idea where it came from) and a stuffed fabric hook which still get used lol. they are never the ones that get confiscated, oddly....

sounds good to me - never seen a pink pirate lol as all of our pirate gear is unisex red and blue (two dds and a ds - and they keep growing, darn it) but it sounds very sweet. hope she enjoys the party and dh realises that not all girls are princesses 24/7 lol.

she has a treasure chest which we thought she could take and put her friend's toys in! proper pirate . Oh yes, a map...will print one off...

I just bought a fab gypsy style headscarf for £2, can cut one end as it has tassles on, she looks fab already! I spent £4 so far, on that and a tee-shirt, now just need sword and eye patch. DD took a while to take around the shops, as such we hardly got out of one shop!

you can make a sword, you just need some card and some foil
thick card, like a sturdy cardboard box, draw a sword, cut it out and cover the blade with the silver foil, and colour the handle with a black marker pen

purepurple - you star, I had not even considered that! We have an art box, with glitter and coloured foil type paper, we could make a jewel for he middle of the handle! I like the idea of that, and DD can get more involved than dragging her around another toy shop which she of course thinks is just for her to play in!

gawd, let her go as whatever she wants to go as - it doesn't really matter- as in a princess. the fun is in the dressing up - not dressing up as what an adult tells you to dress up in

ramon, she wants to do both, she loves pirates, as that is what the boys are into, but equally, she loves being a princess, to the extent that we went shopping today with her fairy princess dress on as she loves it so much! She is always a princess so i we have decided pirate this time! DH is warming to it
