A month until big party - about 50 people for a 50th - just wondering whether to make a proper birthday cake or make 50 of these and place on a cake stand? and where do you buy cake stands from?

I'd prefer a proper birthday cake, but you can hire cake stands from specialist shops - the ones that sell the wedding cake decorations

Depends on what the decoration is like. If its nicely decorated, than candles can spoil it. If its a plain cake, then it can be fun to decorate it with enough candle, or you can get candles that spell the word "fifty", or the 50 numbers.

Have you seen those very thin candles, almost like tapers? They can be quite effective, although it might leave your cake looking like a hedgehog

I have the silcone cases for ordinary fairy cakes and when you pull them off the cakes look a tad messy so i wouldnt go down that route, if you do decide on cupcakes go for paper cases for an occassion and the more eco friendly ones for home use
