I am throwing an 80's birthday party in a couple of weeks [eek]

I have yet to -

  • get all the rsvp's back - have heard from about half of those invited - problem is I don't know who I've invited - it's for my mum and her friends have invited people that should be invited iyswim

order basic decorating stuff ie balloons etc - apart from baloons/banners - how else can I get the house 80's themed?** get my sister to make the sodding cake - well closer to the time obviously

  • sort out food - and this is where the challenge lies - I would like 80's food - did a thread about it a while back but the people kindly helping me arrange the party and cooking etc think we should just do food which you can slop onto a plate rather than a buffet so..................

Can you think of 80's themed food which isn't a buffet type food????? I had planned on gourmet pizzas, cheese and pineapple hedgehog etc.

    THANK YOU

Surely pizzas and cheese and pineapple are buffet food? So assuming you mean you do want that sort of thing, how about the 80's classic, the Vol-au-vent??!! They're really quick to heat and you can have a few different bowls of filling to plop in them?

How many people? Ish?

Pudding has to be black forest gateau or arctic roll!

Lotster - I had planned a huge lis of buffet food including the pineapple hedgehog and the pizzas but the people helping think that it's too faffy and want proper food!! And seeing as I need the help I need to change my ideas quickly.

Pizzas are faffy, unless you plan to eat them cold, as you can't cook many at a time.

How about something like chicken chasseur? Plus a veggie main dish such as a veggie chilli or beany casserole. Then all you'd need is lots of bread and salad. You could always do your cheese and pineapple hedgehog as well!

From this web page:

"Decoration
This is where you can have some real fun. If you are planning to have the party in different rooms, you could develop themes for each one. Circles, squares and triangles cut out of neon-coloured cardboard can transform a room in an hour or two. Draped lace was also popular in the 80s and can be used to add a retro look to any piece of modern furniture. If you have some spare cash, see if you can hire some small neon signs - pink or blue only. Grab some 80s films and play them on your TV - no sound, just the pictures."

Agree re chicken chasseur, also chilli. Have them in a couple of big slow cookers, serve with rice, or maybe baked potatoes.
