DD would like a disney princess theme for her 5th birthday, ive already booked the venue which is a sports hall.

As she has a lot of male cousins we were going to portion half off for the boys and DS (uncles and dads!) to play football and the other half is for the party and the bouncy castle.

she is into disney princess in a big way,ive had a look round and they seem to be quite expensive for what they are, also i have a problem because she wants princess invites but i cant really send the boys one of those can i!!!!

so im looking for ideas, suggestions to do this party as economical as possible, especially as DH has been made redundant ,but i have 2 months so i can buy a couple of things a week.

TIA

I'm sure I break every copyright rule in the book but I make my own party invites by downloading a google image picture I did my self of whatever and printing out at least 4 per page of A4 - much cheaper and thenyou can make them to fit your DD exactly - i.e. Snow White saying come to DDs party . then you can do pirate ones or something for the boys, In the past we have had princess and pirate parties to accommodate both boys and girls then they can choose.

Can you do invites on the pc and print on pink paper or girls and, say, yellow for boys . Similarly only buy a few DP decorative items for the table and otherwise coordinate plain pink, purple, yellow and blue items. Princess and knights/castle theme worked well for dd's 6+th b'day. Pin the flame on the dragon, dragon pinata and so on

I told you jenk1 - you can spend many an hour onthat one planning parties from age 5 to 55!!!

haha ive been on it this morning again!!

well the cake is sorted,as its a disney princess you think she,d want a princess cake ?

no she wants the same one that she got from costco last year!!

not botherd though its only 11 quid and you can get about 40-50 pieces from it.

went to asda this morning and got the princess plates and cups and napkins.

just having a look on ebay for invites,am thinking of making my own as i make cards so just pricing them up.

LOL Lisalisa I have used that site before - it has some serious (and very amusing) examples of competitive parenting on it.

lisalisa · 05/02/2009 13:27

jenk1 - how mcuh are you thinking for invites? I need to make invites myself for my ds' 3rd birthday ? how much is reasonable and when you say make them how do you get the print inside the card or do you write ( gulp!) each one?

stealthsquiggle · 05/02/2009 14:21

lisalisa - I have done invitations by designing one in Powerpoint and then getting them printed "free" from VistaPrint, and have also on other occasions printed individual ones onto cheap (£5/50) blank cards (cheap as long as you don't pay for count the printer ink)

lisalisa · 05/02/2009 22:15

Sounds great stealthsquiggle - i am a complete and utter dunce at computres however and have no idea what power point even is I'm afraid let alone whether my pc has it ( suspect not!) or how to use it if it does!

Get down to Matalan if you can, they have a whole party and dress up section, I saw alot of disney princess party stuff including invites.

samsonara · 05/02/2009 22:19

actually making them sounds brilliant
