I am organising my first ever birthday party eeek (for 1 year old dd) and have no idea what to have as party food/sweets. Would appreciate some ideas! Don't want to go overboard, want to keep it simple, but not sure what people would like!

There will be about 60 people from both families, in a hall, and ages range from 1 to 80!!!

We already plan sandwiches...what else?

Easy is:

Nice breads
Selection of cheeses with bunches of grapes strewn about
Garden salad
Pasta salad
Rice/cous cous
Ham on bone
Prawn ring
Olives/pickled onions

Big fruit salad with cream
Cake

You can make the salads a couple of days beforeas will give the rice/pasta marinating time then just a case of making a fruit salad on the day and assembling it all (no faffing with sarnies).

I did one rently just cooked a shed load of (good) sausages, served with buns and tomato sauce. Birthday cake and fairy cakes and iscuits for afters. Went down a storm!

Dead easy to do and cheap.
