DD invited to party, celeb (or character) fancy dress. Any ideas? Little time to shop and definitely no time to sew. Not Hannah Montana, several of those already apparently. Any simple easy-to-do ideas for celeb/character which would be recognisable? I suggested Sandy from Grease - either version - but DD not interested in that.

sorry, should have said "please". How rude!

Lilly Allen?

AussieLou · 08/01/2009 20:20

I am sure that it will be full of HSM charcters. Most celebs are a bit skanky these days. This is a tricky one. What kind of things is she into? Can she be a person from one of her interests (if that makes any sense)?

chegirl · 08/01/2009 20:20

Amy Whinehouse?

Desiderata · 08/01/2009 20:24

There's nothing like feeding the celebrity culture with nonsense like this, is there???

Go for a character, purleeeeeeeeeze!

lilolilmanchester · 08/01/2009 20:25

she's blonde if that helps. Shoulder length hair. If I could easily (and cheaply!) get a wig, Amy Winehouse would be a good idea. At least people would know who she's supposed to be! That's the sort of thing i was thinking. How would you do Lily Allen Jazz? Thanks for the idea

but also agree with Desiderata! Any ideas for characters without having to find time to shop for much? Can't tell you how loud I groaned when I saw the invitation! What planets is the party girl's mother on? !

Hermione from Harry Potter? Wear an old Halloween witches costume and take a broom?

Crunchie · 08/01/2009 20:30

Amy winehouse is easy, I got a wig online and then made it into a beehive myself. This means I have a long curly black wig for other things. I added black leggings, denim shorts, flat pumps and a vest. Red lipstick and a huge amount of black eyeliner!!

lilolilmanchester · 08/01/2009 20:40

yes, I thought Amy would be easy, will see if I can get a wig. DD saying she wants to be one of the Olsen twins but not sure how you'd know it was one of them and not any other similar looking blondies.

any other ideas please? Amy Whinehouse would be easy-ish, but would happily consider others.

Lily Allen would be fairly simple as she changes her hair colour a lot anyway.

A ball gown type dress and trainers should do it.

Or what about SJP. A dress and a huge flower thingy pinned to it.

Trouble with most of the girly ones, they dress a bit errm well you know. TBH I cant tell one from the other which is why I suggested our Amy. I know she is a terribly sad crack nanny but at least she used to have a bit of style - bless.

What about Dr Who? My DS spends all of his free time in a pinstripe suit and converse sneakers (I mean ALL the time).

You could go all retro and do Souxsie Sue or Toyah or Joni Mitchell etc. But I suppose she would spend all her time explaining who she is.

Good luck.

Please God the party isnt full of little Katie Prices and various Girls Aloud

Ivykaty44 · 09/01/2009 18:48

Annie - big red wig required and cute dress with peter pan neck line.

iheartdusty · 09/01/2009 21:11

avril lavigne - lots of smoky eyeliner and a pink streak in hair
(what - you mean that sounds just like Hanna Montana, Olsen twits, etc etc?)

or what about one of the Addams family? morticia, or the young girl

catwoman

tank girl??

lilolilmanchester · 09/01/2009 22:52

thanks all.. I agree iheartdusty, they all look fairly similar. So, curl her hair a bit, allow a bit of makeup & glitter and she could equally be any of a zillion other mini-celebs. What possessed the parents that thought this one up (or more likely let their DDs go ahead with such an insane idea!!) Was feeling uncomfortable about Amy cos not a great role model but equally an easyish costume to do, but someone else doing it and already got the wig so that one's out. Think I'll go with non-descript teeny-bopper celeb. Come back princess and pirate parties!!!!!!!!
