He will be 5 this April.

has anyone had a party like this?

in April it wont get dark intime for them to appreciate the idea of a campfire (not sure I should have a camp fire with 5 year olds anywya )

what do you think?

hi again Greyskull

Oh I do love a good party ...and it makes a change from pirates ...

They have some good ideas here if you scroll down:

www.kids-partycabin.com/cowboy_party.html

I think the wig-wam idea is good (I think you can buy cardboard ones on line) and rattle-snack toss idea but I think the wanted posters and bar might go over the heads of 5 yr olds ...pin the tail on the mustang a must

I know you can buy cowboy hats pretty cheaply.

Although agree fire not a good idea, could you hire a big black pot cauldron type thing from a catering supply company and empty loads of baked beans and sausages into it (that you have cooked in your oven) and serve up with hunks of bread on enamel plates (borrow?) while they sit around on hay bails or a bench disguised as hay bails

Anyone in your family strum a guitar?

My dd2 had a "Bushcraft" party for her 6th birthday - 15 children doing bits of outdoor stuff, then a campfire, toasting camp bread and marshmallows and baking bananas and cakes in the embers. They loved it.

But they were 6 not 5, which makes a difference I think in terms of how overexcited they get. And my friend runs bushcraft events so she organised it.

It was very popular though. That was August, it wasn't dark but the fire was still good.
