What music would you play at a 5yo girls Bday party?

DD is a "young" nearly five year old and would be happy with nursery rhyme type music at her party but she's just started school and all the girls seem to be in to High School Musical. Can anyone recommend some music for 5 year olds to dance to?(other than HSM) Thanks

I will keep plugging away with this on mn but Strauss' Radetzky March is the ultimate musical bumps music

I think it is a worthy idea to entertain and educate simultaneously

You can't beat a nice spot of Strauss for pass the parcel either.

bjork shhh is fabulous for parties, get them to lie down then jump up and boogie in the fast bit then lie back down etc etc.

Agree that Radetzky March is musical bumps heaven.

I'd just put on something like the latest Now CD or anything with a catchy beat.

abba is a hit with my nearly 5yo DTDs

DD likes Abba too.

Mine is older, so they know all the words to things anyway. Even to things I've never heard of & I listen to Radio 1 every day

Admittedly the Now I used at her party wasn't too bad & at least it didn't have swearing in.

Judging by DD1's last birthday, you could download an MP3 of "I'm a Barbie Girl" and play it on a continuous loop for two hours and they'd be on cloud nine.

We have a very cheap "Kids Party Classics" CD which is very nasty but has all the sorts of stuff that five year old girls like and nothing that I truly object to them singing.

Or I've just picked up a CD of songs from the shows from ELC, which has reasonable recordings of songs from things like Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Oliver and Mamma Mia. Those go down quite well with both my girls - aged 3 and 6.

My DD has just turned 5 and is into all that kiddy pop. She loves anything by Aqua (Barbie Girl, Dr Jones, Candy Man), Steps and S Club 7 (Tragedy, Ain't no party like an S Club Party; 5,6,7,8; Reach for the stars), Dodgy awful pop songs from the past like Star Trekkin, Agadoo, Superman, The fastfood rockers and so on.... You can buy these sorts of albums on Amazon and the like.

If you want to keep it a bit younger, but more 'with it' for her friends, then how about theme tunes from tv shows - stuff like 'you are a pirate' from Lazytown, theme tune or other songs from Dora and so on?

some other essentials, based on DD and DS's choices;

'Bare Necessities' from Jungle Book
Reet Petite

These Boots are made for Walking - Nancy Sinatra
Lulu - Shout
Umbrellas - Rihanna
Spice Girls - Wannabe

(and many choices from Half Man Half Biscuit, but maybe not everyone's taste)

HSM
Hannah Montana
Pop Junior CDs
Disney CDs
Mamma Mia
