am I totally insane to be considering china plates & cups at DD's 7th birthday?

I loathe spending £££ on paper ware to use it for 10 minutes then bin it. What a waste of money and resources. So I have been eyeing the flowery teasets in our local charity shops...

DD would love it, she has been begging me to buy a cake stand for ages. There would be about 14 6-7yr old girls at the party (plus DS). We will do crafty stuff then tea then disco, and it will be in a small hall somewhere nearby. So I would have to lug it all there in the car, plus store it afterwards...and our charity shops are very keenly priced, no plates for 10p, no sirree.

Any views?

Only if you really don't mind them getting broken...

get the recycled bamboo stuff from waitrose and recycle it

never mind the lugging and storing, the washing upw ould put me right off

TrinityRhino · 22/09/2008 19:23

why would thet get broken though
they are seven

and if the do, tis only a plate

sounds like a fab idea

yes washing up would be a drag, but it would only be once a year, and possibly as a special treat for tea once in a while.

they are all very nicely behaved girls when they come to play, so even if they are a bit more excited at a party, I was wondering if the china might make them take a bit more care?

and indeed, 'tis only a plate.

so you don't think parents would say 'yuck, old cups/plates'?

oh no definitely they wouldn't say that at all

Bramshott · 23/09/2008 12:15

I think it's a lovely idea!

thanks all - I picked up 14 sets of cup/saucer and 14 plates plus a little jug today for £3.50 all in, so I am pretty chuffed!

(none of them match but they are all pretty).

now I must stop myself from bidding for ALL the cake stands on Ebay..
