Ideas needed for adult fancy dress costume (it's in a week, and i'm really stuck!)

Ok, close friends 40th next week and he's having a 'Movie Character' themed birthday party. If I hadn't known him for 20+ years and it wasn't a significant birthday, I don't think I'd forgive him for this......

I've sorted the DCs out (Ben10, a Ninja and Princess Daisy - they've all been in films, honestly!) and DH is going to be Silent Bob () but I'm stuck.

Every costume I see, or character I think of seems to wear something skimpy and as a tall, size 20 I don't do skimpy (or spandex, or short)

I was going to wear brown trousers/green t-shirt and be Shaggy () but BF has pinched the idea for her 15YO DS who was balking at fancy dress (she did ask first!)

Help. Please! You lot are so good at things like this (caveat: can't afford to spend large sums of money!)

Have you looked at some fuller figure outfits? Thet start at £10 so not loads of money.

Ewe · 28/08/2008 17:49

I love this one! Could be easy to make?

What about the girl from hairspray? Or a pink lady?

Ewe · 28/08/2008 17:49

Could you pull off Marilyn Monroe?

God I love fancy dress.

Had this problem a couple of months ago

Try hereor try google to find other sites.

Good luck and have a great time

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 17:51

A longish dress and you could be any of the girls from Disney!

I thought of Morticia (it's sort of me anyway - I've already got the hair) but it's all cleavage and tight dresses if I could lose around 6 stone in a week maybe......

Zombie - hmmm, done that before quite successfully (did DH as Worf for that one) Evil Dead is an excellent film.

Fiona's green. I'm not spending all evening green, although why that bothers me more than zombie makeup I don't know.....

Leia - Sheet and ear muffs rather than metal bikini?
Could work......

Hmm some good ideas, thank you (Sorting the other 4 out tapped me out I think )

witch?

pointy black hat and a cloak and a broom?

Scary makeup?

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 17:55

A 1950's Grease-type girl is easy to pull off, cropped trousers/leggings, heels, low cut top and tease your hair into a bouffant pony tail with scarf round neck and a pair of shades with red lipstick.

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 17:56

Oh oh! I know! If it is a close friend's 40th, wear all black and pin photos of tyou and your friend all over and go as Facebook!

serenity · 28/08/2008 18:01

LOL at facebook (not a movie character though, but thanks)

More good ideas, excellent (see I said you lot were good!)

Have to go and cook now, and then go to work - so will disappear for a bit in case I seem to be ignoring any further suggestions

Slouchy · 28/08/2008 18:07

If you don't mind looking the opposite of glam, you could be the SheDevil? Or Death/grim reaper?

ursula the seawitch in purple with a purple face and white wig? Act7ually that would be a TOP costume!

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 18:09

ah balls, didn't read the movie bit, sorry...

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 18:10

Tracey Turnblad fro Hairspray??

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 18:12

short sleeved shirt, plaid skirt, white tennis shoes, coiffured hair..

serenity · 30/08/2008 01:51

Thank you very much for your ideas.

I have now decided to go as Arthur Dent.
