What do you do in the bit between a wedding ceremony and reception?

Our wedding will end at 5:30(thats when we get thrown out of ceremony venue) and our evening reception will start at 7(need to confirm this)

what do we as bride, groom and DCs do in between as photo's will have already been done?

What do our guests do? Are we 'supposed' to provide somewhere for them to be during that time? or are they expected to go home and come back to the reception?

And as a guest what would you expect/want to happen for that part of the day?

I have yet to finalise the guest list but will most likely hve people travelling up from essex(to south manchester) and feel a bit od that they will be lingering

i think people generally use that time to get changed if they want, or just generally mill about, maybe have a drink while they wait
i wouldn't really expect anything to be organised for that bit of time

ours was in a hotel, most people went to have a rest/change/drink.i went for a sit down,desperately wanted to take my dress off, 8o degrees. nearly lost the will to live when 2 coaches of the evening do mob arrived,i cried and my mother shouted at me to get down stairs. its exhausting.
an hour and half will go by quickly, you have enough to worry about, we did put on a free bar.

i know that in that time i will have to somehow feed our 3 DCs as they won't last until the evening buffet from lunch time. I like to keeo their mealtimes at similar times whatever we are doing, they go a bit crazy if they miss a meal!!

Is it really exhausting then?

You'll probably find that the photos will take up most of that time. Our wedding venue was opposite a pub, so we paid the local landlord to open up the pub for us, and we paid for a range of drinks to be provided. We then had the photos taken in reverse order (ie friends first because they're the ones who get most bored and don't want to hang around watching you have your photos taken), so when they had their pics done, we kicked them off down the pub ;-) (although they could sit outside and watch, if they wanted to). Everyone says that was our USP / the best bit of our wedding.

Usually guests head to the meal venue and hit the bar while you get photos done, mind you will have probably done them allready before the meal. I'm used to weddings later in the day, normally the evening guests arrive and the meal is never finshed .

I would check with the evening venue about a bar area being availible for guests. You can take the time to tidy yourselves up and be ready in plenty of time to greet the evening guests.

Would say if you can't provide somewhere, that you suggest somewhere close by where they mingle, drnk, socialise etc. They won't want to go home and then come back...

Why the gap in between? Could leave people at a real loose end, especially if they've already been through the hanging-about-during-photos stage.

the gap is because we went for the latest poss wedding and have to be off the premises all photos done confetti swept up by 5:30. Take half hour MAX to get to reception venue, will have to check with them the time we booked it for. They just said we can have it on the date we asked for!! There is a pub localy that DP and I to every week, i may ask him if our guests can go there for a few drinks in between (will pay for some champers if someone supervises so that the drunks regs don't nab it all )

I am already on teh wedding thread! Although i am bluedragonfly on there

town hall council chambers and North Cheshire Cruising Club(or something like that!) DP found it and liked it and i am not fussed tbh

If I was a guest, I think I'd want to have some prior warning that there will be a gap, and some indication of where I might be able to go. Like a list of local pubs or something? Especially if any of the guests are bringing children who might find it hard to hang around.

i will do that then. we need to go up soon to meet the man (haven;t yet mentioned the W word!) so wil sort out times etc with him. need to do it soon so i can do the invites!!

If thats not do-able we shall go to the bulls head for a bit inbdtween. They have a (very small) beer garden for the children to go on and be contained so they don't fall in the canal!
