40th and alone

I am 40 next week and I am likely to be spending it alone. Family live a long way away and my friends are all married with young children. I have always been to others birthdays and contributed to the joint presents. However, being single means I get forgotten and usually I don’t mind but it just feels a bit pathetic that I will be waking up on my own and spending the day alone on such a milestone birthday. What would you do to make the day a little special?

Could you arrange a meal out with the closest friends, OP? And maybe a spa day just for yourself?

OP send a note out to your mates and invite them for dinner one night to celebrate with you whenever everyone is free. It doesn’t have to be on the actual day of your birthday. I’m sure they’ve love to do that but might need a more notice than 1 week

My friend has recently arranged an "at home" afternoon tea with an invitation for friends & neighbours to drop in between 2 & 4

I helped her with the food - sandwiches, savouries, scones & traybakes. It was great fun and some lovely neighbours bought a couple of bottles of bubbly

Would that work for you perhaps?
