have just booked dd's 4th birthday party at a local sports centre. will be doing food ourselves in food boxes for simplicity but dd is disney princess mad. is it ok for me to give the boys princesses or should i do boy things and girl things! or am i making my life more complicated! there will be more boys than girls i think!

I went to a party at the weekend where they had different plates for boys and girls - the boys just refused to sit at a place with a Disney princess plate. I think from about 4/5 they do notice stuff like this - boys seem to mind more than girls.

Could you have a more unisex theme like animals etc?

ds2 (4) was given princess colouring stuff when a girl at his nursery turned 4 and he said I could have it, because I'm a girl. My dss wouldn't complain but wouldn't be happy either about being given "girly" things, as they put it.

You could do pirates and princesses? Or tinkerbell and peter pan? I think boys would notice and might complain. My 4 1/2 year old would notice (she's a girl, but would object to boys things if she was in that kind of mood!) HTH

It's a big deal to them at this age, they are noticing gender difference. Its a right royal PITA, but I'd go gender specific. Sadly they don't do pink/princesses, and those boys that do will get the piss taken out of them.

Sad, but true.

We have the same issue so ive kept the theme My little Pony but bought plain party bags and ive put different things in the boys to the girls bags, should keep everyone happy that way

for ease, how about doing the food in plain white cake type boxes, and having two sets of napkins/cups/stickers etc...

these things, sadly do matter at this age!

in my experience, 4 yo boys like anything cars/bugs/bob the builder/spiderman/superhero
related...

good luck!!!
