Help me sort out DH's 40th pretty please

OK - DH's 40th party is less than four weeks away.
So far we have - booked a local cafe for the evening 7pm to 2am. They are providing food and a DJ so that is sorted at least.
We have about 60 adults and 40 children coming (we think)
What we are saying to people is that the first couple of hours will be child oriented - DJ will play suitable music and there will be some children's food.
After 9pm people are welcome to stay on with their children but those with little ones may want to head off. We will do adult food about 9.30pm.
We were thinking of doing a welcome drink on arrival and glass of sparkling around 10pm when we cut the cake. Cash bar for everything else. Do you think this is OK or would you expect more free booze?
Decorations - I haven't done anything about these yet or about anything other than a disco to amuse the children. Has anyone got any suggestions?
We are on a tight budget as we have spent all the money we can afford on food and DJ. Any other suggestions anyone can think of - I really want to make it a special night for DH and we have lots of old friends coming from all over the place.

Can you ask friends to send you the funniest/ nicest photo's they have got of your dh and blow them up and pin them around the room? (not too costly, but personal and then he can keep them) a few balloons and a banner?

Don't think you need more free booze.
I dont think you need to split the adult and childrens food either just put half out at 8pm (most people will have fed their dc's at home before hand anyway, theres no way my dc's can wait past 6pm to eat dinner then when that runs low or runs out I would bring the rest of the food out.
I wouldn't eat before i went if I knew there as going to be food though but wouldn't want to wait until 9.30pm to eat I'd be drunk on an empty stomach by then I would think.

Great idea, Lovemygirls, I got DH out of the way this afternoon and trawled through all our photos. I discovered a teenage photo album of his with some hilarious pix in it AND his gap year travel odyssey album (here is DH at Graceland, in front of the White House, on top of Uluru, in front of Sydney Opera House, on the Great Wall of China, bottle feeding a baby kangaroo - I kid you not - with a snake draped around his neck in Shanghai...) How come he never showed me these BEFORE.
I just need some baby photos now and I'm sorted. Have a great one of him aged about six though wearing a snorkel and brandishing a cricket bat!
Anyone got any tips on good online photoprint places. I used to use Snapfish but they got my last two orders wrong.
