Ever had a fire engine party?

I heard a friend of a friend visited the local fire station for her DS 4th birthday where they had a tour of the station, sat on the fire engine and squirted a hose. DS is mad on rescue vehicles and I thought this would be perfect for his 4th birthday too. But I called my local fire station and they said to write in and ask but they thought 4 would be too young for the fire safety talk etc and he couldn't see it working.

They said it was the first request they'd ever had for a birthday but have had Scouts etc round. Obviously I'm not expecting to feed them and have games there. Just thought the kids could have a visit then come back to the house for tea.

I wondered if anyone had actually done this for a birthday or similar.

lol, it's not a theme park

Not done it for a birthday but when I was a nanny we organised a trip to the local fire station and we had a great time!

I'm surprised they said no, afaik many nurseries do visits to fire stations. My dds went to visit with the primary school and turned the hose on the teacher's car (she was a bit worried about her paintwork!)

Many moons ago when I was an au pair for an American family the little three year old boy had a fire engine party. This was a small community and the dad was a member of the auxiliary fire brigade so it was fairly easy to get them to come up to the house and let the kids clamber all over it and press the siren! More appropriate than a "Fire Safety" talk at that age, more of a "Firefighters are nice people and here to help you" type thing.

If you have no joy, then you could always just have it as a theme for cake, hats, party table, games etc.

OMG hatrick - DS would LOVE that. I've only just booked his party and we're in Kent but I'm phoning them tomorrow!

Thanks for your link too Miaou, that's just what I've been looking for and have never seen that site before

How fantastic is that Hatrick, my ds would love it, especially as he has a December birthday and everything is geared up for Christmas.

Why are things like this never in my area though

Thanks for the link. Sounds great but am in Lancashire. :-(

Point taken about the engines being called out on an emergency. Looking at the station's incidents on their website, they don't seem too frequent. One every 2 weeks! But know to pre-warn DS that it's a possibility.

I think its a fab idea - go for it!

quint · 28/04/2008 20:48

You could always do it as a surprise and not tell him just get there
