Disaster - the band wants to cancel for my party - what do I do now?

I booked a band for my birthday party

The guitarist is due back from France on the same day at 5pm - they were due to start at 7pm

They want to cancel in case he is late back

I would hate to be travelling home for that sort of appointment

So do I cancel (less than 2 weeks to go) or do I keep them?

Where are you Katy?

My brother is a v good DJ, do you want me to contact him?

avenanap · 20/04/2008 16:00

Get another one or hire a DJ in case they are leat/don't turn up. I hope it works out ok for you.

Spidermama · 20/04/2008 16:00

I was going to say .... get a DJ.

KatyMac · 20/04/2008 16:02

So hire them both

Hmm could work

The band wants me to tell them how many sets, how long each set should be, whether they should play quiet music when we are eating etc

Mind you them I have to pay both if they do turn up

Would you want the band to play for the whole night? They will expect breaks, you'll need a DJ anyway to fill in the gaps. Just have the band for a few sets later on, pay them on the night. If they fail to turn up let the DJ carry on playing, no one will know.

I looked on your profile to see where you lived Anorak (assuming your brother lived close - I guess he doesn't live near you)

I'm in Norfolk (by Great Yarmouth)

I think I know a DJ tho'

LOL no he lives a few thousand miles away in Surrey! Good luck for your party

KatyMac · 20/04/2008 16:46

So how long is a set?

It depends. They defiently won't play all night though. It's normally an hour or less.

OK so how do I plan this

4-6 children's party
6-7 collapse/get changed
7-7:30 people arriving so DJ or just CD's?
7:30-8:30 Dance music (band/DJ)
8:30-9:00 food & DJ
9:00-10:00 Dance music (band/DJ)
10:00-10:30 Dance music DJ
10:30-11:30 Dance music (band/DJ)
11:30 collapse

Or is there a better way?
