I reckon cakes are a fab new mum present - you are ravenous and knackered and have loads of visitors who expect somethign nice with their cup of tea. Have sent and received v delicious ones from www.beverlyhillsbakery.com/ (think they're just London but there are others elsewhere)

Dont send flowers - they are a pain in the ass to look after on top of a new baby and all that entails - as no one else will change the water, get rid of the dead and dying ones, wash the vase out etc.

This site however is fab biscuiteers.com

How about something like this?

Or this?

If you send flowers, make sure they are pre-arranged in an aquapack. The last thing a new mum needs is to be finding a vase and arranging flowers. (I was so ungrateful for the bouquets I was bought when DD was born, they went in a bucket still in their wrappers and died quietly in a corner of the kitchen. I was so p*ed off as I love flowers and it was a huge waste of money.)

thanks for the ideas. I went for this in the end.

That is fab Hatwoman! I will remember that site as my bf in the world is due to have her first baby later in the summer. She has been so wonderful to me during my 2 pregnancies and has got the HelloBabies some incredibly generous gifts, so I wanted to get her something really special when her first arrives.
