SHould I try to arrange my friend's 40th birthday in USA

My best friend will be 40 in 2 months. We have spoken generally about celebrations etc as I am having a party for mine. She has told me she would like to go clubbing as she hasnt done that for years or alternatively have a nice lunch with friends but is put off because she would have to organise it. So on teh basis that her dh wouldnt dream of taking it upon himself to organise shall I try to liaise with her friends in the US about organising a surprise lunch for her ? I have done sufficient fishing over the last few months and have established contact details for a few of her friends who could put the word out.

I don't think I understand - is your friend in the US? Will you be with her? I think a lunch would be lovely. How thoughtful. There are lots of us over here if you need any help.

my friend lives in Baltimore. I wont be with her as im scared of flying but really want her to have a super special time. I dont know any of her US friends but I am able to contact a couple of them from things she has told me about them. Also I would tell her dh so he could furnish me with anyone's details I dont have.

I have managed to locate a nice french restaurant in her local town which seems to have good reviews. They do a $27-30 lunch menu for private dining which i thought wouldnt break anyone's bank although I think she lives in a wealthy area.

Would it be acceptable to expect people to pay for themselves?

i have made facebook contact with one of her friends and put the idea to her. Hopefully she will be interested and will let me know
