How many pieces of sushi each?

18th birthday party for dd1.
12 friends. How many pieces of sushi each? I'm in danger or horribly over ordering because I really don't want to go under, and also I am hoping to hoover up some leftovers myself.

Tia

I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t eat any sushi

I’m that person who wouldn’t eat any. At most I’d force down one piece to be polite but I’d honestly rather have toast.
I’m not a fussy eater at all and will eat just about anything, but sushi is totally unappetising

Chewbecca · 25/10/2023 16:44

But you're not 18.

Do you not like rice?

Tabbygabby · 25/10/2023 16:54

I'm sure OP has considered whether they like it or not ffs.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2023 16:58

Loads! Plus some tempura veg or prawns.
(DS managed to put away about 10 small plates of salmon nigiri two pieces per plate at a traditional conveyor belt sushi place when he was about 14.)

MadamVastra · 25/10/2023 16:58

Got to have quite a bit to soak up all the Prosecco

ErrolTheDragon · 25/10/2023 17:06

Proper sushi is pretty marmite... quite a few youngsters are vegetarian and probably others won't be that keen on seafood let alone raw fish. Veggie sushi is meh...
DH and I would easily eat 20 each sashimi and sushi but I wouldn't just have this for teens tbh.

Lemonsole · 25/10/2023 17:08

Get the Waitrose Entertaining party trays. Really good value. Did this for DD 's 18th. Mixture of fish and veggie; went down really well with them.

Normalsizedsalad · 25/10/2023 17:10

Lol. I have add for sushi in the middle of the thread😂
I LOVE sushi. I would go big🙈 With variety of sides

Normalsizedsalad · 25/10/2023 17:12

Ok i just realised it's a pic not ad🙈

evtheria · 25/10/2023 17:12

Go big*! Plus sides different to actual sushi/maki rolls, like

  • Yakitori chicken on sticks (can buy from freezer section)
  • Miso soup (sachets, supermarket)
Maybe those mochi ice cream balls as well?

*my DS is 9 and he would easily eat more than 10 pieces of sushi.

I know!

Maybe 8 each. My DD and her mates love the Itsu Gyoza that I buy frozen. Maybe get a few bags of those too

nearlywinteragain · 25/10/2023 17:30

I thought 6 because some might eat quite a bit and a couple probably won't really eat anything.
I would have edamame beans and bao buns as well to give a bit more variety.

SeaToSki · 25/10/2023 17:37

Just make sure you keep it cold. Food poisoning from sushi is no joke

declutteringmymind · 25/10/2023 19:35

Or if you have time make sushi bowls?
Or nori wraps with the sushi ingredients inside?

YY to gyoza, bao buns, yakitori etc. you'll need a feast.

youdonotneedanewphone · 25/10/2023 19:40

Some go a bit nuts with sushi. My nephew is a sushi-olic. If the tray is out, he will demolish it, no matter how many pieces are on it.
Do not put everything out at once.

ArtyStripedSocks · 25/10/2023 22:25

Thank you. I'm going big. It would be a bloody nightmare to run out of food, compared with only mildly annoying to have ordered too much. I'll get a couple of party food platters from the sushi place, which has some chicken skewers plus veggie spring roll type things. We have a fab place near us so hopefully all will be pretty good and no poisoning 🤞.
I am going to take some pics to post on here on Saturday.

MN has been very helpful! Got all the drinks options sorted out on here the other day too!

Yes, I do agree that eating enough to soak up the birthday booze would be easier with pizza, but if the birthday girls wants sushi, then who am I to disagree?!
There will be snacks EVERYWHERE!

Thank you all. Very much appreciated.

The Sushi table. Looks like there isn't enough but I think it's loads. There are chicken skewers and spring rolls too, plus doughnuts and a birthday cake. Plus snacks everywhere. I've been banished upstairs and dd sounds pissed already.

Hope she has a lovely time and doesn't feel too bad tomorrow.
Table looks lovely.

Peachonthebeach · 28/10/2023 19:28

I’d do some gyoza too and as another poster suggested, some bowls of edamame.
then I’d be tempted to buy some packs of breaded or tempura chicken, stick it all in the oven, buy a few blocks of s&b golden katsu sauce and do some rice, so there was a cheap easy katsu curry option too.
Lidl do some fab packs of sushi, the rolls in long thin boxes £2,50 and you get loads.

Peachonthebeach · 28/10/2023 19:28

Oh I’m late! Looks amazing 😊

Cheeesus · 28/10/2023 19:32

That looks fabulous. What a lovely mum she has. Hope she has a great time and leaves you some of everything to try!

Luckydog7 · 28/10/2023 19:34

Omg thats my dream birthday feast, sushi and donuts! Hope you get some for yourself.
