Weak but not too weak Cocktails for 18th birthday party

Ideas please.
DD's 18th, 12 girls coming, karaoke, lots of squealing and daftness.
She has asked if they can make cocktails. Clever friend suggested pre-making two cocktails in Kilner tap jars and setting out garnishes, glasses etc so I can make weaker cocktails and they can feel like they are making them.
I was thinking pretty pink Prosecco cocktails in a champagne glass when they arrive, then they can help themselves to more cocktails when they want.
(I was going to buy an inordinate amount of bottles of water and leave them around in baskets)
Can anyone suggest two good cocktails; mojito might be a good one, no idea about the other.

And a suggestion for the Prosecco cocktail (I'm thinking dilute Prosecco with fizzy water) for when they arrive and ideas on how to keep it fizzy....
Dd is sensible. I don't want loads of pissed girls puking all over my house.

I don't drink so am a bit crap at this.....

I'd do pornstar Martinis because I love them 😂.

Some simple ideas here

bellsbuss · 22/10/2023 11:57

They are 18, just serve them proper cocktails.

Dogsitterwoes · 22/10/2023 12:00

I feel sorry for modern teenagers.

Get 2 bottles of champagne.

Make some proper cocktails and not the very sweet fruity ones as they're so easy to neck.

I think it's unlikely it'll be their first encounter with alcohol.

Callmemummynotmaaa · 22/10/2023 12:03

OP they are 18, one bottle of Prosecco/champagne pours 6 small glasses max. You will need two bottles minimum. Even in small glasses.

If you want to model safe drinking. I’d have measures available. I’d probably provide a non alcoholic fizz/Prosecco (nosecco/Asda/Tesco do one). And/or other non alcoholic (not coke etc) drinks to space their booze with. For example. I often have tonic in a gin glass with ice and lime/ginger (no gin) in between drinks.

Is your daughter the eldest of the group? What’s the groups previous exposure to alcohol? And their attitude to sugar/calories? (Often my nieces who are teens won’t drink the types of drinks mentioned above as they consider them “deserts/treats”).

Would you be better for mojitos providing a soda water, crushed ice, fresh mint, lime juice, (raspberries are an fab extra too) all separately. With a sugar syrup (easy to home make) and pre-measured shots of rum? Again with a non alcoholic alternative? (Seedlip garden do one). Could even be a talking point for spot the difference in taste?

Get some peach liqueur/purée and top up with Prosecco for a Bellini. Or raspberry liqueur/purée and top up with Prosecco. You can also add soda water to make them a bit more low alcohol.

Cosmopolitans are a nice long cocktail you’ll need vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and fresh lime.

Or a Kir Royale which is blackberry liqueur and topped up with fizz.

mojitos are a good call!

Cosmos aren’t long! You could try my faves in my 20s which were Sea Breezes, vodka cranberry and grapefruit juice, that’s a long cocktail.

Basically anything with darker spirits avoid.

I’d do some mocktails and soft drinks too.

To be fair when I was that age I was still drinking what I drank at 14 at the pub which was Malibu and pineapple juice and vodka and orange juice.

I agree with @FreshStart78, parents of my friends did this at a 16th birthday I went to in the 90's. The night out we had two weeks after was a hot hot mess which involved an ambulance and a pub ban because we were necking drinks thinking we could take it because we had been fine on the same quantities two weeks before. It's funny now because it was so long ago but we were all lucky we weren't arrested, assaulted or worse.

TLDRfuckers · 22/10/2023 12:12

Ah sorry yes the dangers of telling people how you make yours rather than the proper way. I always use tall glasses for mine and certainly the wrong measures.

OP check out Diffords Guide for the correct ingredients/measures/type of glass for any cocktail if you’re unsure. I’m notorious for going off piste so my advice is not helpful!

HamstersAreMyLife · 22/10/2023 12:19

Yes it's bitter the aperol spritz. There's some lovely ideas, I must admit I tend to stay away from things that are really fruity as I tend to drink too much of them but a great mocktail readily available is a great idea

MammaTo · 22/10/2023 12:23

I would avoid Prosecco and fizz because these can make even a seasoned drinker hurl.
Maybe just make a normal cocktail but limit them to like 1-2 each. Give them lots of food and water like you said.

Sconehenge · 22/10/2023 12:23

Aperol spritz are a cool very instagramable drink that they might appreciate and you can make them weak/strong by changing the ratios. It’s aperol, Prosecco and soda water. So just do more soda water than Prosecco. Great drink!

ArtyStripedSocks · 22/10/2023 12:28

Thank you! Yes, I realised my error with champagne quantities after posting. There will be one champagne flute each.

Thank you! I will look up sea breeze. I think sex on the beach/woo woo plus a mojito will do the job nicely. Plus one alcohol free cocktail.
Plus some bottles of grown-up looking alcohol free drinks plus sparkling water.
Thanks for all the advice. Very helpful.
I'll look at Diffords @TLDRfuckers good plan.

All very much appreciated!

How about some gin based cocktails but using 3/4 0% Alcohol gin ? Our local ladies club did this last Christmas ( because we are old codgers 😂)

WrongSwanson · 22/10/2023 12:34

It sounds like a good party @ArtyStripedSocks I hope she has fun!

I think mojitos would definitely work well as I like them both with and without alcohol

Movinghouseatlast · 22/10/2023 12:42

Limoncello Spritz is delicious. You can make it much less alcoholic by using a good quality lemon drink rather than Prosecco.

Cocktailpro · 18/04/2024 12:33

Something like a spritz is great - they're not too strong and super easy to make.

Something like an aperol spritz

50ml Aperol
100ml Prosecco
Top with soda

Mojito is also super popular

50ml Rum
Mint & Lime with sugar muddled in a glass
Top with soda
